It falls upon the present day to assess and address the problem of wage disparity and income inequality. There may be a need for a limit, set on the max ratio of earnings made by the top earners in a company, in relation to the wages of the company’s lowest-paid workers.
The numerical values or mathematical formula may not be clear. But a wage disparity ratio of 1,000:1 will simply be too high since 1,000 implies opulence accompanying a billion-dollar estate, and a value of 1 implies the bare existence of merely scraping by.
Since income inequality has negatively affected the black and brown populations the most, the steps made to lessen the income gap will also alleviate some issues with racial economic outcomes as well. Though more must be done.
Wage disparity among the genders should also be addressed. This measure may be a first step. Yet still more must be done.
I think we can agree on the existence of a problem. It doesn't particularly need defining. It is not simply greed or the love of money. It is a continuance of the collection of wealth into the hands of the wealthy. It simply exists as a force of the capitalist economy. Perhaps handed down from feudalism, or perhaps the result of a market not “free” enough. My guess: the invisible hand of the market is giving the working poor the middle finger. And no one can stop it for fear of no longer being competitive in the market.
So, I believe a regulatory measure should be implemented, which may or may not work together with a UBI.
